Benefits of drinking lime water


About 60% of a person’s body is water, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that water is essential for health. Drinking water naturally flushes toxins from your body, keeps you from getting dehydrated, and gives you energy. It is necessary to have at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day.

If you don’t like how plain water tastes, you might like juices and teas better. But these drinks are often sweetened and have more calories than water, which is why water is best. If you can’t stand water by itself, you might be able to drink it if you squeeze some lime juice into a glass. Lime is also suitable for you because it is healthy.

Lime, which is a kind of citrus fruit, has a lot of antioxidants. Drinking lime water benefits your body by stopping or stopping free radicals, which are chemicals that hurt cells by doing damage.

So should I drink lime water every day?

You should use the juice from two to three lemons (about four to six tablespoons) throughout the day and drink one or two glasses of lemon water with meals and one glass in between meals. Don’t put lemon juice in every glass of water you drink. Since lemon juice is very acidic, drinking too much lemon water may make you feel bad.

Lime juice has a lot of citric acid, which can break down tooth enamel. Too much lime juice can hurt the enamel on your teeth and make you more likely to get cavities and plaque. If you start to feel pain and sensitivity, you might want to cut back on how much lime juice you drink.

Too much citric acid can harm the mucus lining of the stomach, leading to painful sores in the stomach. Since the stomach already makes a lot of acids to break down food, extra citric acid from too much lime juice can make the stomach upset. Due to the acidity of limes, some people may experience acid reflux if they eat them or drink the juice. Heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing are other digestive symptoms.

If you’re worried about lime having a side effect on you, as long as you moderately drink lime water, you should be fine. After eating limes or drinking the juice, rinse your mouth with plain water to protect your teeth.

When is the best time to drink lime water?

Honestly, there are no downsides to drinking it whenever you feel like it. However, studies show that drinking lime water in the morning significantly benefits the body more than drinking at any other time.

The best time to drink lime water should be when you wake up. Early in the morning, drink warm lime water on an empty stomach to help stimulate the gastrointestinal tract. Lime juice in warm water aids in the extraction of vitamin C and polyphenols from the lemon and its peel.

Lime water or lemon water, which one’s better?

When people ask me about the health benefits of lime water, one of the most common questions I get is whether or not drinking lemon water might have the same effects as drinking lime water, and I finally made up my mind to figure out the answer.

A few weeks ago, I started drinking lime water first thing in the morning, about 20 to 40 minutes before eating or drinking anything other than water. When I don’t drink it, I can tell the difference. When I haven’t had it for a long time, I can see the difference in my skin. I’m also less likely to get sick from colds and flu that my daughter brings home. Plus, it does a lot of good things for your body.

In the end, both lemons and limes are good for you. But I’d rather drink lime water out of my glass. It doesn’t mean that lemons are any less good. Both have flavonoids, minerals, and antioxidants. Lemons have a little more vitamin C than most other fruits, which helps the liver make glutathione, an antioxidant that helps the liver process and get rid of toxins. Limes have a little more calcium and vitamin A than lemons. Depending on what you like, you can put either lemons or limes in your water.

Good for your skin

One can apply lime juice orally as well as topically. It protects the skin from infections while also rejuvenating it. Due to the high amounts of vitamin C and flavonoids in it, it also aids in the reduction of body odor. Lime juice and essential oils are high in antioxidants and have antibacterial and disinfectant properties.

Lime juice is also an excellent cleanser. Just adding two or three drops to any facial cleanser or shampoo can make it work better at cleaning. When applied to the skin, its acids exfoliate dead cells and help to heal dandruff, skin irritation, and bruises. If juice or oil is mixed in your bath, lime juice can also create a soothing spa experience.

Aids in digestion

Lime has an enticing aroma that makes your mouth water, which helps digestion since the digestive saliva rushes into your mouth even before you can taste it. Lime’s natural acidity takes care of the rest.

The flavonoids, which are compounds found in the fragrant oils extracted from lime, activate the digestive system and improve the production of digestive juices, bile, and acids while breaking down the macromolecules of food. The influx of flavonoids also aids peristaltic motion. Not to mention, lime also has culinary purposes.

Relieves constipation

Like some acids used to clean floors and toilets, the ample amount of acid in lime juice helps clear the excretory system by washing and cleaning the tracts. Lime’s roughage can also help to relieve constipation.

If you take too much lime juice and salt, it works as a mild laxative with no side effects and can help you get rid of constipation.

Good for weight loss

Let’s be honest, everyone needs to keep their weight in check. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of work to pull it off. Drinking lime water before or after exercise aids in weight management. Citric acid can help you burn more calories and store less fat by boosting your metabolism.

Physical exercise and portion size are vital for losing weight. Which is why you should go for at least 30 minutes of exercise most of the week, and focus on your diet. To kickstart your day, enjoy a glass of lime water in the morning or eat a lime wedge before meals to rev your metabolism.

It prevents heart disease

Lime juice is high in magnesium and potassium, which are beneficial to heart health. Potassium lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow, which makes you less likely to have a heart attack or stroke.

Limonins, a lime compound, are being studied to see if they can help lower cholesterol levels. When high blood pressure is combined with high cholesterol, blood vessels can harden and narrow. They also increase your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or developing heart disease.

Reduce inflammation

Inflammation is the cause of arthritis, gout, and other joint problems. Since vitamin C eases inflammation in the body, adding lime juice to water can help relieve the symptoms of arthritis and other joint pain and stiffness.

Lime juice can also reduce uric acid levels. Uric acid appears as a waste product made by the body when purine-containing foods, such as meat, liver, mushrooms, and dried beans, are broken down.  Having too much uric acid in your system can also cause gout.

Good for immunity

Lime juice is rich in vitamin C, a nutrient that may aid in the immune system’s improvement. Your body has a better chance of fighting infection and disease when vitamin C helps produce white blood cells.

Vitamin C also helps wounds heal faster by reducing inflammation and boosting collagen production. Collagen is a protein that aids in wound healing. Other than vitamin C, limes are rich in antioxidants, which support your immune system by protecting your cells from free radical damage.

Heal ulcers

In addition to vitamin C, lime contains flavonoids (limonoids such as limonin glucoside), which have antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, antibiotic, and detoxifying properties and aid in the recovery of peptic and oral ulcers.


Lime water is straightforward to make, and all you’ll need are a few limes from the supermarket. Lime water will not solve all of your troubles, but it will help you feel renewed by rejuvenating and restoring your energy. A single sip of a cool citrus beverage can be highly refreshing.

Of course, to avoid any adverse effects, it is best to consume it in moderation. For the best results, drink lime water free of sugar and other additives. To remove pesticides, dirt, and wax from fresh limes, thoroughly wash them. Half-fill a glass with water and squeeze the juice of one or two limes into it.
